Kindergarten News 2/18-2/21

I hope each of you had a relaxing long weekend with your families. We had a wonderful visit from the accreditation team last week. They spent some time in our classroom and were complimentary of kindness and perseverance of each of the students. We had a blast celebrating Valentine's Day in Kindergarten this week. I shared with the class how “Berry” grateful I am for my Kindergarten “Cuties” with a sweet treat of strawberries and cuties on Tuesday, followed by a little Valentine party to exchange Valentines.

We are wrapping up Unit 6 in our Wonders ELA curriculum. This week our essential focus question is “How can you stay safe in bad weather?” The vocabulary we are working on to support a deeper understanding include the following: safe, prepare, notice, celebration, and enough. In math we are focusing on decomposing numbers to 20. We are using number bonds to support this learning. We have been exploring the weather and the water cycle in science.

We have begun each day with a beautiful focus on religion. We have discussed and illustrated “what does peace feel like?” This allowed for many wonderful conversations that included each of the 5 senses to share what peace means to them. A few of the comments include: “when people include me I feel peace”, “When I am at the beach, I feel peace when I hear the waves”, “When I am with my family I feel peace”, “I feel peace on Earth!” We finished each session thanking God for each of the beautiful opportunities to feel peace.
