We have been having blast celebrating Catholic Schools week in Kindergarten. We spent Monday morning making cards with our 8th grade buddies. We happen to have two sets of siblings in the two classes, so it is always extra special to see them together in the classroom. Tuesday morning we celebrated our wonderful students and all their hard work by playing games with our school families. We have many more fun activities planned throughout the week, so please make sure to check the SJA newsletter for up to date information. We have our Baby Shower this Friday to support CAPS, an organization to help young mothers. I have sent a separate email with specific needs and requests from CA
I am so proud of each of our Kindergarteners! They have come back from our Christmas break with an eagerness to learn! I have been sending newsletter via email, however I have a few fun pictures to share so I wanted to make sure to update the blog this week. We are still focusing on the big question of "What kind of things can you find growing in nature?". Last week we were focusing on Polar animals in the wild, while this week we have moved on to the essential question of "What kinds of things grow on a farm?". We have been discussing plants and animals on a farm, how fruits and vegetables go from a farm to the market, then to our table. Today, we read the book "An Orange in January", then I surprised them with a sweet treat...a slice or two of a juicy orange from Mrs. Johnsons garden. We focused our writing workshop around describing how the orange tasted, or what we thought of the book. Sometimes I give students an option to choose between two writing topics to help them feel empowered and proud of their writing.

Learning focus this week:

ELA: "What kinds of things grow on a farm?" We are working on understanding pronouns and writing complete sentences. Phonics: f, r. along with the High Frequency Words: he, with.
Math: Making 10- we are working number parts with an understanding of number bonds.
Science: Parts of a plant and lifecycles
Social Studies: farm to market
Religion: gods creation (focus on plants and animals) as well as celebrating our amazing catholic school during Catholic schools week

I couldn't be more proud of the growth and strides each of them are making!
